LIMERICK PA – Samtec Inc., an Indiana-based manufacturer of components for high-tech companies that include Google, Intel, Apple, Tesla, and SpaceX, has purchased the former Jones Motor Group building at 690 Enterprise Dr. in the Linfield Corporate Center and hopes to bring about 50 full-time “white-collar” jobs to Limerick, it told the township Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (April 19, 2022).

Samtec Global Facilities Manager Jeff Matheny said the company also had plans (at top) to build an extension on the property for added space to operate three work shifts, 24 hours a day, to meet demand for microwave cable products used primarily in military and aerospace applications. An expansion likely would add even more employment, he added.

Matheny said the company considered the building a research, development, and assembly facility. Traffic serving it would consist of small box trucks making about one delivery and pick-up daily, he reported. In response to board questions, he said its operations involved no heavy chemicals, no waste discharge, and to his knowledge did not require any special environmental handling for materials.

Samtec hired Gorski Engineering, which designed the building in 2008, to help it make the transition of uses from trucking to technology. Gorski representative John Riebow told supervisors the former Jones building of about 18,000 square feet would be “extensively renovated,” and the proposed expansion would add another 6,500 square feet.

The expansion is expected to be built on an area already paved for parking, so Riebow said the project was not anticipated to add impervious coverage for stormwater collection.

The size of the project will require both a zoning hearing and a land development plan review, Riebow acknowledged. The engineers are “already working” on preparing plans and submitting necessary paperwork, he said.

Samtec’s new property is adjacent to another Jones building in which the company is currently leasing office space, and which Matheny said it might consider for future extended lease or purchase.

Supervisors thanked Samtec for the introduction. Its proposed plans are anticipated to be topics for future board sessions.
