The Isle of Man TT is the most extreme motorsport event on the planet and, sadly, it can be incredibly cruel. This video is created in the memory of Mark Purslow, a young man from Ceredigion in Wales who passed away during practice on Wednesday, June 1, for the 2022 Isle of Man TT. We’ve had two days of riding here on the TT Mountain Course, but in truth, yesterday was the first real day of riding.
My bike refused to fire on the grid on Sunday so I missed my rookie speed orientation lap and thus wasn’t allowed to start the session. The organizers got me out for a lap late at night but I missed four laps of practice, so that was a bummer.
The boys diagnosed the problem as a throttle position sensor wire, but went the safe option of replacing the wiring loom for Monday. As such, I got two and a half laps of the course, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life! Check out the video here to hear and see some action.
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to run GoPro/on board cameras at the TT so we have to make do with pit/paddock and front straight footage.
Tonight, as long as the weather is good, we should get four laps, but it’s a case of stead as she goes, build the speed slowly and get the confidence up.
We’ve finally made it to the Isle of Man for the 2022 TT! It’s been a huge project to get here, with Covid doing its best to spoil the fun, but we’re here now so it’s time to get started.
As I write this, it’s about 24 hours before I strap on the helmet for the rookie orientation lap, which will be followed straight away by a full flying lap. This week has been all about getting used to life on the Isle of Man and getting to know the course as best as I can. I also had a ride on the PRF Racing/Metzeler Suzuki GSX-R600 at the Jurby Airfield and it feels remarkably similar to my Pirelli Moto USA Suzuki I’ve been racing in the CVMA series.
This will be the first of many entries for the TT so keep checking back to see how the progress goes.
