Large Ford F-750 RV can carry 8,000 pounds on the bed [update]

If you have never heard of Peter Dunkel, that's okay. It is important to know that he is a professional mechanical porter and car collector. He thinks it is wise to invest US$6 million to buy a Ford F-750 that can travel the world. This is how the F-750 World Cruiser was born. This huge product was once estimated by Mecum at a relatively cheap price of between US$450,000 and US$650,000. Let's see why it might be worth so scratching.

As you can clearly see from the photos, the length of the cab truck has increased a lot. Not only that, it is 22 inches wider than the factory's F-750, so you can put the vehicle on the bed. Today, most pickup trucks cannot be towed on the bed because they are too heavy, but this is not a problem for World Cruiser and its more than 8,000 pounds of carrying capacity. Conveniently, the bottom plate is made of a half-inch thick diamond coating.

If anything, this is just an added benefit, considering all the luxurious living functions inside the rig. When the diamond pattern of the carpet matches the quilted leather seat, you know you have had a great time. The passenger back door reveals a step, similar to the steps you find on a city bus, probably because it is about the same size as one. However, what the city bus does not have is a complete bedroom, bathroom with shower, sink, stove and living room centered on a flat-screen TV.

You will notice the AC unit on the top and the two full-size spare tires installed there. Now, you may be wondering what the motivation for World Cruiser is. In short, it is a 300-horsepower Cat diesel engine that can produce 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to this, it will cruise at 70 miles per hour and may consume its 60 gallons of fuel supply in a hurry.

What is puzzling is why someone would spend so much money to build a motorhome that has basically the same functions as other motorhomes. After all, Mecum said Dunkel spent $20,000 on the harness alone, which is necessary to run all Kenwood entertainment systems, on-board air compressors, etc. But when you realize that this behemoth is actually much lighter than an ordinary RV, the reasoning becomes clearer-it is obviously only half the weight of an ordinary RV-and it can drag more.

Really, this may be the most extreme example of buying someone else’s project, which is not always a good idea; however, this project seems to be completed.

Update 4:30 PM EST on November 22, 2021: This article previously stated that the F-750 World Cruiser is now on sale. However, it was auctioned by Mecum in 2013 and never sold. We have contacted whether the truck is still available, and the copy has been updated to reflect the situation.
